Seth BaumanSeth Bauman was born and raised in Missouri. He is a first-generation college graduate, who received a B.A. in Religion from Central Methodist University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Missouri Columbia. Seth has worked with community advocates and leaders all across the state to increase positive outcomes for youth and families and to Empower underserved individuals through economic and employment opportunities.

  • Seth Bauman was born and raised in Missouri.
    • He grew up in Kansas City.
    • Moved to Warsaw at age 10.
  • He is from a family of 6 and never met his biological father.
  • His Great-Grandmother adopted 27 children and provided foster care for over 42 youths.
  • When they moved to Warsaw he got to experience rural Missouri.
  • He currently works for the State of Missouri in the Family Support Division and helps the director bring about positive change.
  • Seth has a passion for making youth successful.
  • He is a man of faith and a guy that lives that on his sleeve.
  • Seth and Lauren (his wife) have been married for almost 10 years and they have two children.
  • The habit that has led to his success has been his attention to detail.
    • If you are writing an email to someone make sure the grammar is correct (it says a lot about who you are)
    • In his marriage (be very observant)
  • Growing up, his family didn’t always live in the best areas and it was hard sometimes for his parents to get jobs.
  • Moving to Warsaw was a big culture shock for his family.
    • In Warsaw there were not many people like him so he really stuck out.
    • He suffered from the effects of racism but he was always encouraged to respond in a way that was better for the people behind him.
  • Jim Carrey and Robin Williams talked about how they had a dark area in their childhood and they didn’t want other people to have to go through that, and that is why they turned to comedy.
  • Seth was kicked out of college.
    • “College is tough for a lot of people.”
    • Seth was thought to never really be a bad kid but he made bonehead decisions.
    • He just wasn’t really focused on college since he was an athlete.
    • He really did not take value in relationships and the people around him.
  • When he was kicked out of college he found his faith and started to turn his life around.
    • He asked his great-grandmother about faith.
      • She said, “God is love, and if you want love you have to seek God.”
      • She encouraged him to read the bible and especially the book of Proverbs.
      • The first thing he read was “Better off is a man that doesn’t know than a man that does and turns his way.”
  • His transformation led him to study religion in college.
  • At one point he was thinking about going to seminary school to be a youth minister.
  • He started weeding out all of the bad things in his life and started to see the power of positive thinking.
  • He met Lauren shortly after that and he felt that she was an angel.
  • It all comes down to love. (If you want love then seek God.)
  • You have to stay humble and stay hungry.
  • He wakes up every morning with a mindset of gratitude.
  • What are we seeking?
  • The greatest organizations have a great vision so you can see where you are going in business or life.
  • To help youth you can:
    • Show them unconditional love but discipline when needed. (help them learn lessons)
    • Help your child develop their why?
    • Never let them quit (helps you understand the process).  The game is never over until the last second
  • Keep in your mind that you are just as equal as everyone else.
  • Discipline creates respect
    • You will not always be your child’s best friend but there will be stages in life that you can be.
  • In the future, Seth sees alternate endings to his life such as:
    • Higher Education and getting his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri
    • Growing within the state government
    • Running a non-for-profit to help youth (advocacy)

  • He wants to grow and impact the power around him.
  • He really takes time to develop relationships.

  1. Share with us how you believe your mindset affects your life. It’s huge. The first thing to remember is to have gratitude. Stay open-minded. There are multiple ways to get to a solution, it just depends on your view. If you have gratitude, you will listen to people and if you listen to people, you will learn. If you learn you will grow.
  2. What do you do daily to bring Energy into your life? Eat healthy and remind yourself that someone else depends on your success. We transfer energy to people.
  3. Share the number one connection that has made the biggest impact on your life. Great-grandmother – met people and just poured joy into them. Also a group of guys that just love on one another.
  4. What advice has Influenced you the most in your life? Son do what’s right because it is right. Don’t do wrong because it is wrong.”
